Create a recurring event

last updated at: Jun 8, 2026

A recurring event is one that repeats on a schedule. You set it up once and Calendar generates all the occurrences automatically. You can later edit or delete a single occurrence, all future ones from a given date, or the whole series.

Set a recurrence when creating an event

  1. Open the New Event form by clicking Create event in the sidebar, or by clicking any day in the calendar view.

  2. Fill in the title, date, and time as normal.

  3. In the row below the time pickers, open the recurrence dropdown. It shows Does not repeat by default.

  4. Choose how often you want the event to repeat:

    • Daily: every day from the start date.
    • Weekly on [day]: every week on the same day as the start date.
    • Monthly on the [ordinal] [day]: for example, "monthly on the second Tuesday".
    • Annually on [month] [day]: the same date each year.
    • Every weekday (Monday to Friday): each working day.

The day and month labels in the options come from the start date you set. If you change the start date, open the dropdown again to see the updated options.

  5. Click Save.

Change the recurrence on an existing event

  1. Click the recurring event in the calendar.

  2. Click the pencil icon in the detail panel.

  3. In the Edit Event dialog, open the recurrence dropdown and choose a different option.

  4. Click Save. Calendar asks which occurrences to update:

    • This event: changes the recurrence for this occurrence only.
    • This and following events: updates this occurrence and all future ones.
    • All events in series: changes the whole series.
  5. Click OK.

Edit one occurrence without changing the others

  1. Click the specific occurrence you want to change.
  2. Click the pencil icon and make your changes (you can adjust the time, title, location, or any other field).
  3. Click Save, then choose This event when Calendar asks which occurrences to update.
  4. Click OK.

That occurrence is now separate from the rest of the series. All other occurrences are unchanged.

Remove an occurrence or cancel the whole series

  1. Click the occurrence you want to delete.

  2. Click the bin icon in the detail panel.

  3. Confirm the deletion scope:

    • This event: removes this occurrence only.
    • This and following events: removes this occurrence and all that come after it.
    • All events in series: deletes every occurrence of the recurring event.
  4. Click OK.
