Create a chat room

A chat room is a named space where you and other people can send messages and share files. You can create as many rooms as you like, each with its own name and access list.

Create a room from the sidebar

1. Open Chat. The sidebar on the left lists your rooms.
2. Click New chat at the top of the sidebar.
3. In the New chat dialog, type a name in the Chat name field.
4. Check the Location shown below the name. By default the room is saved to your Drive. To save it to a different location, click Change and pick the folder or drive you want.
5. Click Create. The new room opens straight away.

Create your first room

If you have no rooms yet, Chat shows a Create your first chat button in the centre of the screen. Click it to open the same dialog described above.

Personal rooms and team rooms

When you create a room, the location you choose determines who can access it.

• Save it in your own Drive to create a personal room. Only you can see it until you share it with someone.
• Save it in a team's Drive to create a team room. Every member of that team gets access automatically, without you having to add each person individually.

After the room is created

Once the room is open, you can share it with specific people by clicking the Share button in the toolbar. You can also rename the room at any time using the pencil icon in the toolbar.
