Add and edit links
last updated at: Jun 8, 2026
You can turn any word or phrase in a document into a clickable link, or insert a URL on its own. Links open in a new tab.
Insert a link
On desktop
- Select the text you want to turn into a link. If you skip this step, the URL is inserted as the link text.
- Click the Add link button in the toolbar (the chain-link icon).
- In the Add link dialog, type or paste the URL into the URL field.
- Press Enter or click Add Link.
On mobile
- Select the text you want to link, or place your cursor where you want the link.
- Tap Insert in the toolbar.
- Tap Link.
- Type or paste the URL into the URL field, then tap Add Link.
Remove a link
Click anywhere inside the linked text, then click the Add link button again. The link is removed and the text stays in place.
You can also click the Remove link button (the broken-chain icon) that appears in the toolbar when your cursor is on a link.
Change the URL of a link
Remove the existing link first, then select the text and add a new one.
