Print an email

last updated at: Jun 8, 2026

You can print any single email in Mail, or save it as a PDF, from the message you are reading. Mail prints the open message on its own, without the sidebar, the list, or the toolbar around it.

  1. Open the message you want to print. It appears in the reading pane on the right.
  2. Click the More actions menu (the button) in the toolbar above the message.
  3. Choose Print.
  4. Your browser's print dialog opens. Pick your printer and settings, then click Print.

The printed page shows the subject, who the message is from and to, the date, the list of attachments, and the full message. The rest of the screen, like the mailbox list and the toolbar, is left out.

Print is on the open message, not the list. To print one email, open it first, then use the More actions menu. Right-clicking a message in the list does not offer Print.

Save an email as a PDF

There is no separate "save as PDF" button. The same print dialog does it.

  1. Follow the steps above to open the print dialog.
  2. Where the dialog asks for a destination or printer, choose Save as PDF (the exact wording depends on your browser).
  3. Click Save and pick where to keep the file.

If you want the original email file rather than a printout, use Download in the same More actions menu instead. See Download an email.
