Rename, move, and organise files

You can rename any file or folder in Drive and move items between folders without leaving the browser.
Rename a file or folder
- Right-click the file or folder (or click the ⋮ button at the end of its row).
- Choose Rename from the menu.
- In the dialog, edit the name in the text field. For files, the extension is handled automatically, so you only need to change the name part.
- Click Rename to save, or Cancel to leave the name as it is.
You can also rename from the detail panel: select the item to open its panel, click the ⋮ button at the top of the panel, and choose Rename.
Move a file or folder
Drag the item onto a folder to move it there. The folder highlights as you drag over it. Release to drop.
You can only drop items onto folders, not onto other files. If a folder does not highlight when you drag over it, the drag is not on a valid target.
To move several items at once, select them first. Hold Shift and click to select a range, or hold Ctrl (or Cmd on a Mac) and click to add individual items to the selection. Then drag any item in the selection to move the whole group.
