Get started with Mail

Mail is your email in Eigen. You read, write, and organise messages without leaving the browser. This page is a quick tour of the layout, so you know where everything is.
The screen has three parts: the list of mailboxes on the left, the message list in the middle, and the reading pane on the right where the open message appears.
Your mailboxes
The sidebar on the left holds your mailboxes. Click one to see the messages in it.
- Inbox is where new mail arrives. It's the first thing you see when you open Mail.
- Drafts holds messages you've started but not sent yet.
- Sent keeps a copy of everything you've sent.
- Spam collects suspected junk mail.
- Trash holds messages you've deleted.
- Archive is for mail you want to keep out of the Inbox without deleting it.
When a mailbox has unread messages, the count appears next to its name, like Inbox (3).
The message list
The middle column lists the messages in the mailbox you've opened, newest first. Each row shows who the message is from, the subject, a short preview of the text, and the date.
Unread messages are shown in bold, so they stand out. A paperclip next to a message means it has an attachment.
To find a message, type in the Search emails... box at the top of the list. See Search your email for more.
The reading pane
Click a message to open it in the reading pane on the right. You see the subject, who it's from and to, the date, any attachments, and the full message. Opening a message marks it as read.
The toolbar above the message has the actions you'll use most:
- Reply, Reply All, and Forward to respond or pass the message on.
- Archive to move it to the Archive.
- Report Spam to move it to Spam.
- Delete to send it to the Trash.
The More actions menu (the ⋮ button) adds Print, Download, and Move to folder.
Write a message
Click Compose at the top of the sidebar to start a new message. To reply to one you're reading, use Reply or Reply All. See Compose and send an email for the details, and Read and reply to email for working through your Inbox.
You can add a signature that's included on the messages you write. See Create an email signature.
Calendar invites
When a message contains a calendar invite, Mail shows it as a card inside the message, with the event name, time, and location. Click View in Calendar to open it in Calendar.
