Share a drawing and comment
last updated at: Sep 11, 2026
Drawings are private to you until you share them. You can share with specific people, with a team, or with anyone who has a link, and choose whether they can view or edit. If you can edit a drawing, you can also leave comments, either on a single object or on the drawing as a whole.
Share a drawing
Open the drawing, then open the sharing dialog in one of two ways:
- Click the Share button (the person icon) in the top-right of the toolbar.
- Open the File menu and choose Share.
Share with specific people
- In the sharing dialog, type a name or email address in the box at the top, then pick the person.
- They appear under People with access as an Editor by default.
- To change their access, open the dropdown next to their name and choose Editor (view and edit) or Viewer (view only).
- To remove someone, set their dropdown to Remove.
- Click Save.
Share with a team
If you belong to a team, click Share with team at the bottom of the dialog and pick the team. Everyone in that team gets access.
Share with a link
Under General access, a drawing starts as Restricted: only the people you have added can open it.
To share more widely, click the lock icon to switch it to Unrestricted, then choose Can edit or Can view. Use the Copy link button in the People with access header to copy the link and send it to whoever you like.
An Unrestricted link still requires the other person to sign in to Eigen. It isn't open to the public web.
Let people know
Open the File menu and choose Email collaborators to write a message to everyone you have shared with. Eigen adds a link to the drawing for you. Save your sharing changes first, because the option is greyed out while you have unsaved changes.
Control who can change sharing
If you own the drawing, you can stop editors from re-sharing it. In the sharing dialog, turn off Editors can share. With it off, only you can add or remove people. Editors can still work on the drawing, but they cannot change who else has access.
Comment on an object
Comments attach to a single object on the canvas, such as a shape, an arrow, or a text box. You need editor access to add one.
- Right-click the object.
- Choose Add comment from the menu.
- In the New comment dialog, give the comment a title and, if you like, a description and a colour. You can also assign it to someone.
- Click Add comment.
A small coloured triangle appears in the top-right corner of the object to show it has a comment.
Open and reply to a comment
Click the coloured triangle on an object to open that comment's thread. You can read the messages, add a reply, and mark the comment as resolved.
View all comments
Click the Comments button (speech bubble icon) in the toolbar to open the comments panel on the right. The panel lists every comment on the drawing, and the New comment button at the top of the panel adds one that belongs to the drawing as a whole rather than to an object. Use the filter button (funnel icon) at the top of the panel to narrow the list by who a comment is Assigned to, by colour, or by Status: Open, Resolved, or All.
Click a comment in the panel to jump to the object it is attached to and open its thread.
Resolve a comment
Open a comment and mark it as resolved. Resolved comments are hidden by default. Set the status filter to Resolved or All to see them again.
