Organise contacts with labels
last updated at: Jun 8, 2026
Labels let you group contacts however you like. You might use them for work, personal, or project-based groupings. Once a contact has a label you can click that label in the sidebar to see only those contacts.
Create a label
Labels live in the sidebar under the Labels heading.
- Open Contacts.
- Click the + button next to Labels in the sidebar. The Add Label dialog opens.
- Enter a name in the Label Name field.
- Click the colour swatch to pick a colour for the label.
- Click Save. The new label appears in the sidebar.
Assign a label to a contact
You can assign labels when you create a contact or at any time by editing one.
- Open the contact and click the pencil icon (Edit) in the toolbar.
- In the Labels row under Basic Information, select a label from the Add label dropdown.
- Repeat to add more labels. Each label appears as a coloured badge.
- Click Save.
To remove a label from a contact, click the small trash icon on the label's badge, then click Save.
Assign from the context menu
You can assign or remove labels without opening the edit form.
- Right-click a contact in the list. A menu appears.
- Choose Assign label to open the label submenu.
- Click a label name to toggle it on or off. A tick shows which labels are already assigned.
You can select several contacts first (hold Ctrl or Cmd while clicking) and assign a label to all of them at once.
Drag a contact onto a label
You can also drag a contact row and drop it onto a label name in the sidebar. The label is added to that contact straight away. This works with a multi-contact selection too.
Filter contacts by label
Click a label name in the sidebar. The list shows only contacts with that label. The label name and its colour appear above the list.
To go back to all contacts, click My Contacts in the sidebar.
Edit or delete a label
To rename a label or change its colour, hover over it in the sidebar and click the pencil icon that appears on the right. The Edit Label dialog opens. Make your changes and click Save.
To delete a label, open Edit Label and click Delete. You will be asked to confirm. Deleting a label removes it from all contacts that had it, but the contacts themselves are not deleted.
