Work with several contacts at once
last updated at: Sep 13, 2026
You can act on more than one contact at a time. Pick a group in the list, then delete them or change their labels in a single step.
Select several contacts
- Open Contacts and click My Contacts in the sidebar, or a label if you want to work inside one.
- Click the first contact you want.
- Hold Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) and click each of the others. Cmd-click a selected contact again to drop it from the selection.
- To take a whole run at once, click the first contact, hold Shift, and click the last one. Everything between the two is selected.
Selected rows stay highlighted. Clicking with Cmd, Ctrl, or Shift only changes the selection, so the details panel stays where it is.
The list also works from the keyboard. Press Cmd+A (Ctrl+A on Windows) to select everything currently listed, use the arrow keys to move through the list, hold Shift with an arrow key to extend the selection, and press Escape to clear it.
Open the menu on your selection
Right-click any of the selected rows, or hover over one and click the ⋮ button. The menu then acts on every contact you selected.
If you right-click a row that is not selected, that row becomes the selection and the menu acts on it alone.
Delete several contacts
- Select the contacts you want to remove.
- Right-click one of them and click Delete 3 contacts. The number matches your selection.
- The Delete Contact dialog asks "Are you sure you want to delete 3 contacts?". Click Delete to confirm, or Cancel to keep them.
Deleting is permanent, as it is for a single contact. See Edit or delete a contact.
Delete is not offered when your own contact card is part of the selection, because that card cannot be deleted. Cmd-click it to drop it from the selection, and the option comes back.
Assign a label to several contacts
- Select the contacts.
- Right-click one of them and hover over Assign label.
- Read the mark next to each label name:
- A tick means every contact in the selection already has that label.
- A dash means only some of them have it.
- No mark means none of them has it.
- Click a label name. A label with a dash or no mark is added to everyone in the selection. A label with a tick is removed from everyone.
Labels have to exist before you can assign them, and you can also drag a selection onto a label in the sidebar. See Organise contacts with labels.
Email or chat with your selection
The same menu can start one message or one chat for the whole group. See Email or chat with a contact.
