Get started with Stickies
last updated at: Jun 8, 2026
Stickies is a kanban board. You organise work into columns, and each column holds cards. A card has a title, an optional description, a colour, and its own comment thread where you can discuss it with the people you share the board with. This page is a quick tour of what you can do.
The board
When you open a board for the first time it comes with three columns: To Do, In Progress, and Done. A welcome card sits in the first column to show you how things work.
Each card shows its title, a preview of its description, and a reply count if there are comments on it. To open a card and read its full content, click it.
Columns
Columns run left to right across the board. Each one has a header with its title and two small buttons: a plus icon to add a card, and a pencil icon to open Column Settings where you can rename the column or delete it.
To add a new column, click the Add column button in the toolbar (the plus icon). On a narrow screen, open the Edit menu in the toolbar and choose Add column.
You can reorder columns by dragging their header left or right.
Cards
To add a card to a column, click Add a sticky at the bottom of that column (or the plus icon in the column header). The Add Sticky dialog opens, where you fill in a title, an optional description, and pick a colour. Click Add Sticky to save it.
To edit a card you have already added, open it by clicking on it, then click the pencil icon in the card detail view to open Edit card.
Cards have a colour to help you group related work at a glance. You can change a card's colour in the Edit card dialog, or right-click a card and choose a colour from the context menu.
Moving cards
Drag a card to a different column to change its status. You can also drag it up or down within the same column to reorder it. Drag a column header to reorder whole columns.
Comments
Each card has a built-in comment thread. Open a card and type in the box at the bottom to leave a message. Everyone who has access to the board can read and reply. The card face shows a reply count so you can see at a glance which cards have active discussion.
See Discuss a card with comments for more detail.
Filtering by colour
The toolbar shows a row of colour swatches. Click one to show only the cards with that colour. Click it again, or click Reset, to clear the filter.
Undo and redo
Mod+Z undoes the last change. Mod+Y or Mod+Shift+Z redoes it. The toolbar also has undo and redo buttons.
Sharing
Boards are private to you until you share them. Click the share button in the top-right corner of the toolbar to give other people access and choose whether they can view or also edit. See Share a board and manage access for the details.
